The Challenge

Europe’s energy transition hits a wall without storage. Grids are strained, prices are volatile, and every new solar or wind asset adds complexity without flexibility.

Voltfang tackles this by turning requalified EV batteries from European automakers into high-performance storage systems for industrial, commercial, and grid-scale use, adding resilience, not just capacity.

FORWARD.one involvement

Voltfang is exactly our kind of company: hard tech, intelligent software, and a team that executes. We led the Series A when the company was scaling from early revenues into serious commercial traction, backing their vision of local, circular energy infrastructure as a pillar of Europe’s future growth.

From there, we stayed close. We helped hire and scale the sales team, opened doors to growth and infrastructure funds, explored non-dilutive financing options, and worked with the founders on fundraising strategy, performance KPIs, and tracking. When momentum accelerated, we chose to lead the Series B as well, so the team could stay locked on execution instead of spending a year on the fundraising circuit.

We are seeing an enormous surge in orders. Expanding the energy infrastructure is urgently needed across Germany and Europe, especially as we work to build resilience against external energy dependencies. We must act now to create more grid flexibility using large-scale battery storage.

Results

Voltfang is building exactly what Europe needs: scalable, circular storage infrastructure that turns grid stress into grid flexibility. Performance at grid scale:

  • >2x year-on-year revenue growth since our initial investment, with the business on track to more than double again next year. (Internal portfolio data)
  • €8.8M Series A, led by FORWARD.one, to accelerate deployment of second-life and “new life” battery storage across commercial and industrial sites in Europe.
  • €15M Series B, again led by FORWARD.one, to scale manufacturing and rollout of large-scale storage, reinforcing Voltfang as a European champion in battery infrastructure.

€250M partnership with Palladio Partners to develop, finance, and operate large-scale battery storage projects across Germany through 2029, positioning Voltfang as operator of a new grid-level asset class.
  • Europe’s largest second-life battery storage factory in Aachen, the “Voltfang Future Fab”, with a production site scalable up to 1 GWh per year and 250 MWh annual output targeted by 2026.Real climate impact: Voltfang systems have already stored over 10 MWh of renewable energy and avoided an estimated 2,000 tons of CO₂, with installed capacity ramping fast as new projects come online.
